PRINCIPAL

Tom began his career working at Dancer Fitzgerald Sample and Benton & Bowles, both top tier Madison Avenue advertising agencies. It was here in account management Tom developed strong and disciplined packaged goods marketing and brand strategy skills working with Procter & Gamble, Kraft General Foods, Gillette and Richardson Vicks.

 

Tom has worked in consultant and account management roles in the restaurant industry for over 30 years with clients that include McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC, Starbucks, Subway, PepsiCo. and many others. Tom’s restaurant consulting work has focused on brand positioning, brand strategy, menu strategy and menuboard and path to purchase optimization.

HOWLAND BLACKISTON

PRINCIPAL

Howland launched his career on Madison Avenue. In 1979 he co-founded Juran Institute, Inc. (consultants in continuous quality improvement) and built the Juran brand into the largest and most prestigious quality consultancy in the world. Howland emerged as a noted authority in the processes of continuous improvement and how organizations grow their business by improving the products and services they offer to their customers. Howland served as President of Juran Institute for over 20 years.

 

Howland has published many professional papers, authored books, and has traveled extensively as the featured speaker at hundreds of events and media broadcasts all around the world. Collectively, Howland's publications have been translated into 16 languages and have been utilized by organizations in over 40 countries.

As principal at King·Casey, Howland consults with a portfolio of clients in the retail, foodservice and restaurant fields, both in the USA and abroad.  He is a key proponent of King·Casey's COZI (Customer Operating Zone Improvement) strategic discipline and process.

KEVIN ARMSTRONG

Data Analytics

Kevin Armstrong leads King-Casey's restaurant consulting team and brings considerable expertise to our data analytics services. Kevin has worked in consultant and executive roles in the restaurant industry since 1980. As an executive he has worked in marketing, operations, finance, and development, as well as leading restaurant companies. He was CEO of Cosi, President of Long John Silver's, and CMO of Subway. Kevin has consulted to both Fortune 50 and emerging companies on business strategy, marketing strategy and execution, customer satisfaction and operational improvement, and turnaround management. 

TED BARBER

Foodservice Operations

Ted Barber provides planning, consulting and design services in the areas of: Foodservice, Laundry, Warehouse, Solid Waste, Financial Modeling, and Project Management. He has worked with a diverse array of foodservice projects including; hotels, resorts, casinos, convention centers, education, stadia, healthcare, restaurants and theme-parks. Notable brands making up his practice are; Walt Disney Company US and France, Hyatt Hotels, Starwood, Penn National Gaming, Irving Convention Center, Baha Mar Resort, Hotel and Casino, Hillsborough County Schools and many others.

 

Previously, Ted served as Senior Vice President and COO of Bertucci’s, President and CEO of Semolina Restaurants and Corporate Vice President, Procurement and Food and Beverage for Ameristar Casino’s.  Ted’s vast experience in all aspects of culinary, operations, finance, procurement and construction make him valuable consulting resource for our clients.

NORM LEFERMAN

Consumer Insights

Norm Leferman has directed King-Casey’s research activities for nearly 30 years. He has helped our clients better understand consumer behaviors through analyses of responses to brand positioning, branding, design, visual merchandising and other forms of communications. Consumer insights (using various disciplines) are routinely utilized to assist in the development and assessment of optimized menuboard strategies and executions.

 

King-Casey offers a range of research protocols including ethnographic studies, intercept interviews, qualitative and quantitative research, as well as state-of-the-art virtual simulations, and mobile eye tracking studies.

 

Norm’s experience with restaurants and food service clients in particular includes multiple assignments for McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy’s, Del Taco, Hardee’s, Denny’s, White Castle, Olive Garden, Long John Silver's, Blimpie, and many others.

 

Norm received an MBA from the University of Connecticut and a BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has guest lectured at Syracuse, NYU (Stern) and Hunter College. Previously, Norm was an Associate Research Director and, later, Manager of Marketing Information Services at BBDO Advertising.
